07. HOW MUCH?

This part of the process is the most difficult and uncomfortable. Many people keep their cars for years and years just so they don’t have to negotiate with car salespeople and sales managers at a dealership. To some it is almost as painful as public speaking.
You can now purchase your vehicle over the Internet dealing with a sales manager in that department. You may have to order the vehicle so you do not see the vehicle until you come in for financing and paperwork and take possession of it. Lots of people purchase vehicles this way now. BE AWARE, many times the Internet department will tell you that they can order a particular vehicle when they know darn well that that vehicle will not be available for several months, however they take a deposit anyway.

After a period of time they will tell you that they cannot get that particular vehicle but there is one almost like it, “that just arrived on the lot.” What a scam. They never had any intention of getting the vehicle you wanted, they are counting on you growing weary of waiting and accepting another vehicle in it’s place.
I personally like to see something before I buy it. If you have spotted the vehicle on the lot that would suit you and it is the right price, tell the salesperson that you would like to know the full price including tax, title, tags, junk fees, extra options, dealer fees, interest, etc………………… The salesperson will sit you down in the showroom and another person will appear to assist with the sale, this person is called, “the closer.” He calculates all of the figures and gives you a number. This final price is usually about $2,000 - $3,000 more than the price on the window sticker. How did that happen? There are lots of hidden fees in the price of a car. The dealership charges a fee called a “Dealer Fee.” What is it? Simply, a fee (between $500.00 - $700.00) that is pocketed for pure profit. If you put up a big enough stink they will sometimes eliminate that fee. Just be ready to see the price to go up again when you get to the finance department.
