20. HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM

There sits your brand new vehicle waiting to be driven. When you start it up you hear a funny noise that you did not hear at the dealership or on the way home. Now it is running funny or you smell something burning. TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK IMMEDIATELY!!! Let your salesperson know what is going on. Talk to the Service Director, (not the Service Manager because he or she does not have the power to help you.) If you talk to the Service Manager he or she will tell you that the sound is normal and everything is fine. Everything is fine right up to the time you are stranded on the interstate! No, get to the root of the problem and do not let up until you know what is wrong. houston-we-have-a-problem.jpg

If you have to, make an appointment with the District or Regional Manager. There is usually a Customer Experience phone number that you can also call. Call everyday until you are satisfied. Believe me, they want you to go away. Make it clear that you will not go away until the matter is resolved. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Make sure that you get a Lemon Law booklet with your paperwork at contract. I knew of several customers that were able to bring their vehicle back and get a full refund because their vehicles were “lemons” and they went through the proper channels. If you spend that much money and the vehicle does not perform as specified you have a right to get your money back. It may not be a pleasant experience, but who cares when you are dealing with that much money. Always remember, the dealership may have been nice to you when you purchased the vehicle but they do not really care about you personally. Sorry but it’s true.
