Don’t Negotiate Payments

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

You never want to negotiate based on a monthly payment. If you are then you can not afford the car. You have to realize that a dealership makes money three different ways from you. The first is on the price of the car you buy, Second is on your trade-in, and Third is on the financing. If the first words out of the salesmen’s mouth are “So how much can you afford a month” you need to put a stop to it. He is going to try to put you into the most expensive car he can get you financed for over 72 months. Focus on the price of the car rather than the monthly payment. “Never answer the question, ‘How much can you pay each month. You are there to negotiate price not payments. If you negotiate based on payments the dealership is not going to negotiate price and you are going to pay more for the car and more in interest and the dealer wins on both.
